Psychedelic Integration is a necessary and important step in completing psychedelic assisted therapy. It is extremely important to work with a mental health professional who has both trained and personally experienced psychedelic assisted therapy, so that they have both the academic knowledge and the personal understanding of how to help you move through whatever comes up in your journey.
To get the most out of psychedelic assisted therapy, we recommend you begin by working with one of our trained therapists for a handful of sessions before doing a journey. In these initial sessions, your therapist will help you set intentions and expectations regarding what may come up for you in the process. This will help you and your therapist be direct and intentional in guiding your healing journey. For the best outcome, it is important for you and your therapist to have a general understanding of any known past trauma which might come up in a journey for healing.
Following your journey, it is important to continue the integration process over the next few weeks to three months to help solidify new ways of thinking and understanding the world, by eventually making those changes permanent. It may be important to add in some Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help create and establish new ways of thinking and interacting in the world, based on the client’s new insights. Some level of psychoanalysis combined with person centered therapy can also help clients make sense out of some of the abstract concepts or ideas that may arise in a journey.
